The one and only Ford GT40 Mk II Roadster, often referred to as "X-1", was imported from England on a race-and-return basis. Handed over to Shelby American it had a brief but glorious career: one race, one outright victory!
Sadly, the Roadster was relegated to the history books when the customs men confronted Shelby. They demanded that the car be destroyed or the import duties paid! In 1970 the "old race car" was cut into pieces and buried at nearby Los Angeles construction site as the officials looked on.
