Finish Line
1977 Daytona 24 Hours, driven by Peter Gregg and Jim Busby

The 1977 24 Hour race at Daytona was a full FIA event and so points would count towards the World Championship of Makes. This prompted the Porsche factory to bring three 935 Turbos wearing Martini, Kremer, and Jolly Club colors.

Aside from a few early laps that Danny Ongias led, the only car to get ahead of the 935 Turbos in the first 20 hours was the Brumos Porsche 934 RSR driven by Peter Gregg and Jim Busby. Taking the lead just after midnight, the #61 Brumos entry held first position until sunrise!

But Daytona was punishing the leaders one at a time. The Interscope car driven by Ongias blew its turbo; the Martini entry of Ickx/Mass suffered a pair of tire failures and met the wall abruptly each time; the Kremer car made a lengthy stop by for brakes. With the morning sun came gearbox problems for the Gregg/Busby car, requiring a 3-hour stop for repairs, dropping the pair down to tenth.

Porsche scored a 1-2-3-4 victory despite bad luck and attrition, in a race where only Porsche cars, including the #61 Brumos 934, held the lead.
