1976 Porsche Cup Champion, driven by Bob Wollek

In 1970, Porsche AG formed what would become the most important and hotly contested marque trophies in the world: the Porsche Cup. Only drivers of privately entered Porsches are eligible to win the Porsche Cup; results achieved in factory entered cars are not considered. Finishes are weighted so that victories in world championship and international races are worth more than national and regional races.

Driving for the Kremer Vaillant Team, Bob Wollek of France scored points in all levels of competition: the World Championship for Makes, European GT Championship and even the German Circuit Championship. With characteristic consistency he finished the 1976 season with 258 points, comfortably ahead of runner up, Toine Hezemans of the Gelo Racing Team. Third place went to Reinhold Jöst, a name familiar with anybody who follows international sportscar racing to this very day.

Presented by Dr. Ferry Porsche on December 15, 1976, Wollek gratefully accepted the Cup and the DM65,000 ($27,100) that went with it. The Strassbourg native would go on to represent Porsche exceedingly well for many, many years to come.
